What are Lab Sapphires and Lab Diamonds?

A Lab Sapphire or a Lab Diamond is a "Greenhouse" sapphire or diamond. Its chemical, physical and optical properties are identical to those of a mined sapphire or diamond. The only difference is that mined sapphires and diamonds are extracted from the earth whereas Lab Sapphires and Lab Diamonds are created in a laboratory - with no negative impact on our planet, but with all the same sparkle.

Colour

Diamonds are categorised by colour in letters from D to Z. When we talk about ultra-fine white, we expect the best colour to be in the colourless range. However, many diamonds are found in interesting shades of yellow to brown. Absolute rarities are stones in the colours pink, blue, green, intense yellow and red. The so-called fancy diamonds.

Cut

The cut is the first and most important quality criterion when buying a diamond. Only the world's most experienced diamond cutters can give the king of gemstones its full expression. Symmetry, proportions and polish are decisive for brilliance and the reproduction of spectral colours. Light can only be fully reflected if the cut is optimised.

Clarity

The clarity of a diamond is important for its brilliance and therefore also decisive for its visual appearance. As the diamond is cut in such a way that it reflects the incident light in its entirety, an inclusion can reflect several times. If a diamond is free of inclusions, it is described as internally flawless. If it also has no external features, it is labelled flawless.
